In the city of Chicago, a jaw-dropping 75 people were shot over the weekend, with 12 of them dying from the their wounds, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Most of the casualities occurred from midnight Saturday to early Sunday morning, with over 40 people getting shot and four of them dying.
One paramedic described the two hour period where 25 people were shot as “a war zone,” according to ABC 7 .
ABC 7 reports Chicago Police Superintendent, Eddie Johnson, said during a press conference how most of the shooters have been arrested in the past on gun charges.
“It is the same people who are pulling the triggers in some of these communities,” Johnson said. “This isn’t a widespread issue among citizens of the city. This is a small subset of individuals who think they can play by their own rules because they continue to get a slap on the wrist when we arrest them.”
