A new map is coming to Overwatch as a part of this year’s Summer Games event. This new multiplayer space is called ‚Busan,‘ and it is heavily implied to be a Lucioball map.
Summer may be nearing its end for most, but it’s only just getting started for Overwatch fans. The game’s popular Summer Games event is back once again, bringing with it all the special game modes and character skins one could want. The premiere game type this year is, once again, Lucioball, but the mode won’t be exactly the same as it’s always been.
The above tweet at first appears to be a simple announcement for the event’s start date of August 9. However, closer inspection reveals something interesting: a new map. Lucioball has only had two maps for a while. One is “Sydney Harbour Arena” in Australia, and the other is “Estadio das Ras” set in Rio de Janeiro. The image above does indeed depict Sydney, but the other half is certainly not Rio de Janeiro. Instead, it appears to be set in an eastern Asian city. Blizzard later confirmed this via their South Korean Overwatch Twitter account.
Using this account for the announcement makes sense. The new map is called “Busan Stadium,” and is almost certainly located in South Korea’s port city of Busan. Considering Overwatch’s international popularity, especially in South Korea, having a map set in one of the country’s most populous cities makes a great deal of sense.
At the moment, it’s unknown whether or not this new map will be replacing “Estadio das Ras” in the map rotation this year, or if it’s just another option. Blizzard also hasn’t definitively stated whether or not “Busan Stadium” is the only new piece of content to be included in the 2018 Summer Games event. One would think that there would be new skins available at the very least, but since new skins have already been announced for the Overwatch All-Star Weekend, it is not a sure thing.
Love it or hate it, Overwatch is still going very strong, and it has plenty of fans who are still excited to see what Blizzard will take the game next. Blizzard themselves are still obviously very committed to keeping the game fun and relevant, as their ongoing events and additions of new heroes show. Considering how the last couple of years have gone for the game, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Overwatch enjoy a healthy community for several more years to come.
