After the launch of the Galaxy Note 9, Samsung will be aiming to launch the Galaxy S10, which is said to come in a total of three models. Attempting to make the design better than before, Samsung might introduce an aesthetically improved flagship series for 2019, but there are going to be some disadvantages when it officially launches in India.
With the smartphone industry maturing, it is time that manufacturers like Samsung introduce something noteworthy, such as a foldable screen device. Initially, there were numerous reports coming in that the foldable flagship and the Galaxy S10 were going to be separate phones, but there is a possibility that a design change might be expected with the launch of the upcoming flagship.
The leak states that the Galaxy S10 will ship with a foldable screen, much like what we have heard about the Galaxy X. However, more rumours kept on saying that this flagship would be the first from Samsung to get 5G support, but the latest leak claims that this next-generation feature will not come with the smartphone, unfortunately. Samsung’s mobile President, DJ Koh has said that the company will be launching a foldable handset in 2019 but gave no indication towards an exact launch month.
As for which smartphone from Samsung would finally get support for 5G connectivity, Koh did not mention this. For now, if you wanted to upgrade to the Galaxy S10, know that it may very well come without a 5G modem.
As stated above, Samsung is reportedly launching three models of the Galaxy S10. The first two will ship with a 5.8-inch AMOLED screen, with the biggest one said to feature a massive 6.44-inch display and might be called the Galaxy S10 Plus. Samsung might maintain the same resolution on all three models, which is 2960 x 1440.
As for the chipsets, all models belonging to the Galaxy S10 will either have a Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820, depending on which region these variants are sold in. Surprisingly, both of these chipsets are said to feature a 5G modem and even then, the Galaxy S10 is reportedly not going to be the first flagship from Samsung to support this next-generation connectivity standard.
There might also be three memory configurations coming with the phones; 4GB RAM + 64GB storage for the base version, 6GB RAM + 128GB storage for the second model and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage for the Galaxy S10 Plus. Coming to the optics, the base version of the Galaxy S10 might feature a dual-camera setup at the back and front, while the second version and the Galaxy S10 Plus might ship with a triple-camera setup at the back and a dual-camera at the front. Details of the rear camera setup state that the primary sensor will be a 12MP unit, followed by a 16MP super wide-angle lens and then a 13MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
All three models are expected to feature a screen-to-body ratio that is higher than the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus ( review), although the battery capacity details have been kept in the dark right now. We can expect LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage chips present in all three models, which will rapidly increase the speed of these devices while also reducing power consumption.
There is not a clear timeline when the Galaxy S10 lineup is going to be launched in India or what price it will be sold at. However, Samsung has been making a regular appearance at the MWC trade show so, in 2019, the Korean smartphone manufacturer will no doubt be showing up there and officially launch the newest flagship series.
MWC 2019 will take place on the 25th of February and end of the 28th of the same month, so we can expect to know something after that. As for the pricing, the improved design, better hardware specifications and a brand new foldable display means that the Galaxy S10 could end up being more expensive than the Galaxy S9 was at launch.
