Samsung has a range of Galaxy Tabs and largely, they do quite well, with entertainment-on-the-move being a growing requirement for tech consumers. Netflix and the like have made Tabs all the more useful to the entertainment-hungry, and entertainment always comes with the worry of being inappropriate for children.
Samsung’s answer is a Galaxy Tab that is made keeping in mind both adults and children, with features that make it safe for keeping the device in homes where children keep grabbing every gadget they see.
The new Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is now officially announced, and pitched by Samsung to be an affordable device that comes with child-friendly features. What Samsung is referring to here is a computer-like user mode where the buyer can create different users to log in with their own tailored settings, so that children can log in with their own accounts that do not give access to stuff not meant for them, such as live blogs for election campaigns.
Adding to that is a Kids Mode in the tab where the user can control both the content shown and the time duration for which it is to be shown so that there is no finger-wagging about your child dozing off in school.
The global launch for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is to be held on August 24. The device is expected to launch in WiFi and LTE variants, with the WiFi model costing slightly lesser. The LTE variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 will be launched at an estimated Indian price of Rs 31,000, with the WiFi variant priced at Rs 26,000.
According to Samsung Electronics executive Jason Lee, the latest addition to Samsung’s Tab series will make life easier and more entertaining for the whole family. “Featuring a refreshed design, enhanced parental controls and new home connectivity capabilities, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is the perfect complement for the modern household,” he said.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is similar in its design language to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. However, while the S4 finds its USP in the Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 comes with a 10.5-inch TFT LCD display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, and a screen resolution of 1200×1920 pixels. The tab boots Android 8.1 Oreo and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core SoC, clocking 1.8GHz and paired to Adreno 506 graphics processor.
The device comes with a 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage, which is expandable to 400GB. There is nano-SIM support, WiFi and LTE. The battery is a large 7,300 mAh unit with Type-C USB for charging, and the cameras are 8MP rear and 5MP front sensors with autofocus, LED flash and HD video recording at 30 frames per second.
Colour options are Black, Blue, and Grey, and the S Pen is supported. For a better audio experience, Samsung has thrown in four speakers, one at each curved corner of the device, with Dolby Atmos.
Connectivity features include Bluetooth 4.2, dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with WiFi Direct and Hotspot, GPS, HTML5 browser, and Type-C 1.0 reversible connector. The device is compatible with Samsung Galaxy Tab accessories such as Charging Dock and Book Keyboard Cover.
