DeX essentially transforms your mobile device into a desktop computer. The Galaxy Tab S4 runs Android 8.1 and features a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display and 7,300mAh battery that Samsung says offers up to 16 hours of video playback.
In the market for a new Android tablet? Samsung has a new one you might want to check out.
The company just unveiled its latest flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S4. The $649.99 2-in-1 is Samsung’s first tablet to feature DeX. Also available on the Galaxy S9, S8, and Note 8 smartphones, DeX essentially transforms your mobile device into a desktop computer.
Galaxy Tab S4 users can launch DeX from the Quick Panel or by connecting the tablet to an optional $149.99 accessory called the Book Cover Keyboard.
„With Samsung DeX, you can open multiple desktop-style windows for your Android apps, including the Microsoft Office suite, directly on the Galaxy Tab S4, and re-size them when needed,“ Samsung wrote in a news release . „Drag and drop content between apps and use keyboard shortcuts and commands for efficiency.“
DeX earned a „good“ rating in PCMag’s review last year, though we said it „still falls into the uncanny valley of not being quite as capable as a real PC.“
Another feature you may find even more useful than DeX is Samsung’s S Pen stylus, which comes in the box with the Galaxy Tab S4, lets you jot notes and draw doodles.
In terms of specs, the Galaxy Tab S4 runs Android 8.1 and features a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display, 13MP and 8MP cameras, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor, and a 7,300mAh battery that Samsung says offers up to 16 hours of video playback. On the audio front, it has four speakers tuned by acoustic company AKG and Dolby Atmos‘ „immersive sound technology“ for „crisper dialogue, enveloping sound fields, maximized loudness without distortion, and consistent playback volume,“ Samsung wrote.
You can use the tablet to control smart home devices via the SmartThings app and transfer files and notifications across Galaxy devices with Samsung Flow.
The Galaxy Tab S4 is up for pre-order now and slated to arrive in the US on Aug. 10. Those who order one now through Sept. 8 can get half off the Book Cover Keyboard.
