The Mi Mix 3 achieves an all-screen fascia by using a manual slider mechanism
“The Mi Mix 3 achieves an all-screen fascia by using a manual slider mechanism”
The ongoing IFA 2018 had several surprises in store for us, including the Honor Magic 2, which is slated to come with a manual slider mechanism. However, soon after the announcement by the Huawei-owned brand, Xiaomi decided to play spoilsport by teasing the official render of the upcoming Mi Mix 3 with the exact same design. Now, an alleged hands-on video of the smartphone has popped up on the internet, showcasing the sliding mechanism of the upcoming Mi Mix 3.
The image shared by Xiaomi’s President – Lin Bin, gave us a glimpse at what the mechanism would look like while extended. While we knew it to be a mechanical slider, we didn’t know how it would look like in action. However, the latest leaked video gives us the complete idea of how the mechanism will work. The smartphone is seen in a person’s hand, with the camera being rapidly slid up and down, with ease. Moreover, we already knew that manual mechanism will be more durable than the motorised ones found on Vivo NEX ( review) and OPPO Find X ( first impressions). The video shows the sliding mechanism being used roughly, confirming the durability.
The new video also reveals that the sliding mechanism will house the front camera, earpiece and sensors. There is a very minuscule cutout on the display, like previous Mi Mix smartphones, implying that to attend calls you will not have to slide out the back panel. Further, Xiaomi seems to have done away with the prominent chin that was the signature design element of the Mi Mix series, as well. Recently, the brand was also seen testing 5G connectivity on the upcoming flagship, which might make it the first commercial smartphone with the next-generation cellular connectivity.
In his Weibo post, Lin Bin also revealed that the smartphone will be launched in the month of October. We don’t have to wait for long to know the accurate details, so stay tuned.
