Trump: ‘No Political Necessity’ To Keep Canada in NAFTA

If Canada can’t make a fair trade deal with the United States soon, it will be excluded from the current negotiations with Mexico, President Trump announced.
“There is no political necessity to keep Canada in the new NAFTA deal. If we don’t make a fair deal for the U. S. after decades of abuse, Canada will be out,” Trump tweeted Saturday.
Trump then warned Congress not to “interfere” with the trade negotiations or else he’ll strip away NAFTA completely, which would still be better than the current NAFTA framework.
“Congress should not interfere with these negotiations or I will simply terminate NAFTA entirely and we will be far better off,” he tweeted.
“Remember, NAFTA was one of the WORST trade deals ever made. The U. S. lost thousands of businesses and millions of jobs. We were far better off before NAFTA – should never have been signed. Even the vat tax was not accounted for. We make new deal or go back to pre-NAFTA!”
Trump announced a trade deal with Mexico earlier this week, adding that Canada would be included in the negotiations.
“We’re going to call it the United States-Mexico Trade Agreement. We’ll get rid of the name NAFTA. It has a bad connotation because the United States was treated very badly for NAFTA,” Trump said Monday.
