The Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has finally unveiled its flagship Mate series, take this wraps off four smartphones at a dedicated launch event yesterday, namely Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X, and Mate 20 RS Porsche Design. Given the fact that most OEMs are trying to gain a foothold in the Indian market, the phones were bound to come to the country, but we weren’t expecting this to happen so soon.
Although it’s exciting news that the Mate 20 flagship has already made its way to India, there is a catch here: only the Mate 20 Pro will be available in the country. While this restricts the choice and prevents you from buying the relatively less expensive Mate 20, we can hope that the other variants will be available in the country soon. OnPhones has pointed out that just like the Huawei P20 Pro, the Mate Pro will be Amazon exclusive, which means it could only be purchased off Amazon India. Either way, this has given the Indian fans a reason to rejoice as not only Huawei has brought the best of the series to the country, this is also the first time the Mate series is coming to India. Although the listing doesn’t say when the phone will start retailing, you can ask to be notified on the website.
The phone is pitched at €1049 in Europe, which converts to INR 89,000. Considering the fact that Huawei’s previously released premium phone, the P20 Pro sells for Rs.64,999 in India and this is a price sensitive market, we are quite sure that it will be offered at a reduced price in the country.
Huawei has slowly established itself as one of the best smartphone makers in the world, and the Mate 20 series is a continuation of that legacy. The Mate 20 Pro is a killer phone and leaves a little to be desired. It flaunts a huge, high-resolution 6.39-inch notched display that contains 3D depth-sensing facial unlock system. It also features an In-display fingerprint scanner.
The phone gets its firepower from the recently unveiled 7nm Kirin 980 SoC that promises improved performance and efficiency, as well as faster LTE with a Cat.21 modem that supports speeds up to 1.4Gbps. It also has Dual NPU for AI-related tasks, camera enhancements, and system optimization. The phone has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The Mate 20 Pro also has a beast of a camera setup, consisting of three lenses (20MP for super wide shots, a 40MP wide-angle sensor, and an 8MP telephoto shooter). Coupled with the adaptive dual-tone flash, the camera system forms a square grid at the back of the phone. The phone also comes with Huawei’s Master AI 2.0 image processing that dissects a picture into different sections and treats each part differently to avoid exaggerated enhancements. On the front, there is a 24MP camera with an aperture of F/2.0.
The Mate 20 Pro has a huge 4200mAh battery that can be charged more than 70 percent in just 30 minutes, thanks to the SuperCharge technology. The phone also supports 15W wireless charging, along with 40W wired charging, which is a lot more than the current industry standard. Moreover, the phone has also debuted ‘reverse wireless charging’, which means you can use it to wirelessly charge other phones.
With the Mate 20 Pro, Huawei has rounded off the year on a good note, and we can expect it to waltz in the holiday season with ease. Watch out Apple and Samsung, Huawei is surely on a roll.
It remains to be seen when Amazon will actually start selling the Mate 20 Pro in India, but you can enjoy our review of the Huawei P20 Pro in the meanwhile:
