As per the rating and testing the iPhone XS Max has come out as the best with the score of 105. The smartphone easily managed to beat Samsung Galaxy and Pixel smartphones, but it failed to surpass Huawei’s P20 Pro.
Apple recently launched its current generation iPhones — iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Out of the two, the iPhone XS Max gained some extra limelight as it is the most expensive phone of the company. Now, the popular camera testing firm Dxo has released the camera review rating of the iPhone XS Max.
As per the rating and testing the iPhone XS Max has come out as the best with the score of 105. The smartphone easily managed to beat Samsung Galaxy and Pixel smartphones, but it failed to surpass Huawei’s P20 Pro. The Huawei P20 Pro managed to score 110 in the camera test.
The DxOMark scores are a combination of both video and photo performance of a smartphone. The iPhone XS Max scored 105 points which is more as compared to last year’s iPhone X which scored 97. This clearly show the difference between the cameras of both the smartphones. DxOMark believes that as both iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max share similar camera specifications so they will score same points in the test.
DxOMark says, “During still image capture, the camera continuously captures a multi-frame buffer at different exposures, allowing for simultaneous zero shutter lag and HDR processing, something that is unique to the new iPhone at this point.” This means that the iPhone XS Max has the potential of displaying HDR images in realtime in the preview image. This feature is not presently available in any other smartphone.
Coming to the video mode, the iPhone XS Max is capable of shooting 4K video at 60 frames per second and 1080p Full-HD at up to 240fps. DxOMark said, “The faster sensor readout allows for better video stabilization and a reduced jello effect. In addition, the camera can shoot footage with expanded dynamic range when the frame rate is limited to 30 fps.” The iPhone XS Max managed to score 96 points courtesy its indoor white balance instabilities which turned out to be its weakness. On the other hand, the video performance in bright conditions is the key highlight of the smartphone.
DxOMark also adds that one aspect of the camera also needs a little bit of improvement and that is the zoom performance. The zoom functionality of iPhone XS Max is not that great and the images captured consists of more noise and less detailing.
DxOMark says if there is one aspect of the camera that could be improved, it’s zoom performance. While zoom has been slightly improved compared to last year’s iPhone X, iPhone XS Max zoom images luminance noise and less detail than some rivals, such as the Huawei P20 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, but still scored 110.
