Practically speaking, Donald Trump is not president of the United States. He’s a billionaire businessman who happens to have all the powers vested in the presidency.
That’s because, under Trump, it seems the central question driving U. S. domestic and foreign policy is: What’s best for the financial interests of the Trump family? If our critical relationships with our European allies conflict with Trump’s tangled political and financial interests in Russia, Trump’s interests prevail. If Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is suspected of ordering the horrific murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, Trump hems and haws, mindful of his family’s long and lucrative business relationship with the Saudi Royal family. It wasn’t until Thursday that Trump finally stated that „it seems“ Khashoggi is dead and threatened severe consequences if the crown prince is found responsible.
