English pop phenomenon Jess Glynne debuts her sophomore album Always In Between at No. 1 in the U. K. this week, keeping her record perfect, as both of her full-lengths have now risen all the way to the throne. Hers is one of just two new entries inside the top 10 this week across the pond, while the rest of the spots inside the highest area are occupied by holdovers from weeks past.
With Glynne claiming the No. 1 rung, last week’s champion is forced down to second place. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born soundtrack slips slightly, claiming the runner-up position as its lead single “Shallow” rises to No. 4 on the singles tally .
Coming up just behind A Star Is Born is the Greatest Showman soundtrack, which hasn’t left the top 10 since it arrived almost a year ago. Down slightly to No. 4 is recent chart leader Blood Red Roses by legendary singer Rod Stewart. The title owned the listing just a few frames back, giving the knighted musician his ninth champion. Eminem’s recent surprise release Kamikaze holds at No. 5, coming in just ahead of George Ezra’s Staying At Tamara’s, which lifts one slot to No. 6.
The second just-released album to start its time on the chart inside the top 10 comes from pianist Rick Wakeman, who remains a staple of the British music industry decades into his career. As a soloist, Wakeman has collected half a dozen top 10s over the decades, collecting his first in the ‘70s and returning to the spotlight just last year. His new collection Piano Odyssey enters at No. 7.
Before he ventured out on his own, Wakeman was a member of the band Yes, with whom he also found incredible success. During his time with Yes, Wakeman also scored at least half a dozen top 10s, bringing his career total to a dozen appearances in the region.
Rounding out the top 10 are Twenty One Pilots’ Trench (No. 8), Cher’s Dancing Queen (No. 9) and the Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again ! soundtrack (No. 10).
