After Pokemon GO finally adds Gen 4 Pokemon to the game, data gathered by fans indicates that the Gen 4 update also introduces new region exclusives to catch.
Pokemon GO has officially added the fourth generation of Pokemon, letting Pokemon Trainers collect creatures that hail from the Sinnoh region. Fans have been waiting for Gen 4 Pokemon to arrive in the game for quite some time now, and so many are incredibly enthusiastic about the update. However, there is some disappointment as some of the Gen 4 Pokemon are region exclusives.
The Pokemon GO fan community has begun to gather data about where the new Gen 4 Pokemon are spawning. Reports published on The Silph Road indicate that Gen 4 includes three region exclusives. These regional exclusive Pokemon are Carnivine, Chatot, and Pachirisu.
Chatot, which is a Pokemon inspired by parakeets and musical notes (its head is in the shape of an eighth note), appears to be exclusive to the Southern Hemisphere. Pokemon GO players in Australia, Indonesia, Brazil, and Chile have reported catching the new character. Pachirisu, a Pokemon which combines electricity and squirrels, has been caught in the northern part of North America, including Canada and the state of Alaska in the US.
Meanwhile, Carnivine, which is a Pokemon inspired by the carnivorous Venus flytrap, seems to be appearing in the southeastern region of the United States. There have been sightings of the Pokemon in North and South Carolina (the Venus flytrap is found in the wetlands of these two states), as well as Alabama, Maryland, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida. This has inspired some players to call Florida “the best place” to be a Pokemon GO player, as the state is home to several other regional exclusives including Tauros and Heracross.
It’s understandable if some players are a little disappointed by this news. As of the time of writing, there are only 20 Gen 4 creatures in the game, and players have already embarked on the quest to catch ’em all. Three out of those 20 (approximately 15%) the Gen 4 Pokemon added so far may be a substantial distance away from them. So, it’s not hard to see why some are upset.
Though, it’s important to note that Pokemon GO developer Niantic does regularly add region exclusives to the game. The studio also has lots more Gen 4 Pokemon that it could potentially add to the game. That means that more regional exclusive Gen 4 Pokemon may well be on the way and some of them may be a bit more spread out over the globe, giving everyone the chance to capture a location-specific creature.
Pokemon GO is available for Android and iOS devices.
