Jeff Sessions is a good and honest man. And a spectacular senator for Alabama. Unfortunately he let Democrats berate him into being a bad Attorney General
LOS ANGELES: One day after Democrats captured the House, President Donald Trump fired his beleaguered Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Trump named Matthew Whitaker Interim Attorney General. Democrats rushed to protect the Robert Mueller investigation. This is keeping in line with the Democrat strategy of focusing on what Americans care about the least.
As the liberal media screamed about conspiracy theories, they again missed two major takeaways from Trump’s firing of Sessions.
Trump can fire anybody he likes at any time for any reason. If Sessions wore the wrong color necktie, Trump can sack him. Trump has zero power to fire any members of Congress, the judiciary or the media. He has total power as the head of the executive branch to fire anyone and everyone in the executive branch. He is the boss of that department. The boss can hire and fire at will.
If Trump fired Sessions to deliberately hinder the endless Russia investigation, that would be a crime. Try proving this happened.
And Jeff Sessions was in the wrong job.
Jeff Sessions is an honorable man who was a spectacular Alabama Senator. He would have won reelection easily had he not taken the Attorney General job. Sessions is a perfect fit for that job, remaining well-liked and keeping Alabama voters respect.
He was not tough enough for the Attorney General job, which requires a combative bulldog. His decision to recuse himself from the Russia investigation was a legal and strategic blunder. He was bullied by Democrats, and he caved. He showed weakness to a boss who demands strength at all times.
Former Attorney General Eric Holder was held in civil and criminal contempt of Congress for a myriad of coverups. Yet Sessions went to the other extreme. He recused himself when there was evidence of any crime of any kind. His decision allowed Democrats to try and overturn the legally won 2016 election.
While Trump remained under a cloud over non-crimes, Hillary Clinton, John Brennan and a slew of Obama officials remained free despite evidence of guilt.
He can immediately announce his intention to return to his old Senate seat in 2020.Democrat Doug Jones is a placeholder who knows he will be fired in two years if his opponent is anyone but Roy Moore.
Sessions would mop the floor with Jones, and all of Alabama knows this.
Sessions would not be the first man to fail in one job while being a model of excellence in another one. He was a weak Attorney General, but he can still go down is one of America’s very finest senators.
He can also hold his head high knowing that he is widely known as a man of rock-solid ethics and integrity.
