After reports last week of the infamous P. T. demo from Konami being updated to be unplayable, the company reaches out to report the demo is still accessible to owners.
Now that the calendar has turned to November, the urge for spooky movies and scary video games is probably gone for most. In the week leading up to Halloween, though, some PS4 owners were treated to what was thought to be some scary news of a different front, with a report coming from a Redditor regarding Konami‘s P. T. stating that a new update for the Silent Hills demo made it unplayable. As it turns out, however, the scare appears to have been a fallacy on all fronts.
While many people were skeptical about the reports of version 1.01 updating for those who still own P. T. on their hard drives, Konami has reached out to multiple news outlets declaring the update in question is not real. According to the company, its playable teaser for the now-cancelled Silent Hills title is still available to anyone who still has it saved and downloaded onto their PS4 hard drive.

For those unaware, Konami’s P. T. was released as a free demo back in August 2014, and gained popularity quickly by surpassing one million total downloads by the following month due to the reveal of Silent Hills, which would have starred The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus as the main protagonist. However, due to the eventual split of Konami and director Hideo Kojima, Silent Hills was officially cancelled in Spring 2015, and the demo was removed from the PlayStation Store shortly after.
As it so happens, a lot of player responses to the cancellation and removal of P. T. has lead to some fun, fan-inspired creations. Just this year, a 17-year old developer created a fan-made remake of P. T. for PC that was welcomed by fans with open arms, but was quickly found and taken down by Konami. The only people able to play P. T. in its full experience are those who already had the game downloaded, as owning the license alone does not grant users the ability to re-download the game if it’s deleted from the system’s memory.
Konami‘s P. T. is still playable to those who already own it, but is currently unavailable for download on PS4.
