The BlizzCon 2018 opening ceremonies introduce the next Overwatch hero, Ashe, a tough as nails outlaw who wields a semi-automatic rifle and tosses dynamite.
Every year that BlizzCon rolls back around, Overwatch fans wait with anticipation for the announcement of the game’s next playable hero. One again, Blizzard did not disappoint, and introduces audiences to Ashe, the 29th character to join the roster.
In true Blizzard fashion, Miss Elizabeth Caledonia Ashe premiered in an all-new cinematic trailer called “Reunion” that follows the suave cowboy McCree. In it, he thwarts a train robbery attempted by the Deadlock Gang, a group of desert outlaws led by the new Overwatch hero.
The story takes place in the Route 66, and helps explain the train wreck that has always been at the start of the map. The trailer is a lot of fun, filled with action-packed moments, and even introduces several new characters. Ashe’s gang, including omnic sidekick and muscle B. O. B, are interesting new figures in the lore, so it should be welcomed news that their leader will be joining the ranks.
Here’s what she can do:
Fans can get a complete look at Ashe on her character page on the Overwatch website.
Shortly after the cinematic, another video was released that shows Ash in action, and gives insight into how she plays. She has decent range on her rifle, and is seen working as a good counter to the rocket launcher-wielding Pharah. Ashe is also shown using her Coach Gun on the ground to give herself a significant boost upward and onto a platform. There’s currently word on when she will be hitting the PTR, but it should be relatively soon.
Outside of the game, Blizzard is working closely with LEGO to bring Overwatch characters to fans in block form. A recent leak revealed several of the first LEGO Overwatch sets hitting stores sometime in the near future. They look very well-made and feature many of the original heroes from the game’s early years.
Blizzard is also trying its hand at a different kind of game: the breakfast game. The company is planning on releasing a real-life version of Lucio-Oh’s, a brand of cereal in Overwatch named for the hero Lucio. It will contain “Sonic Vanilla” pieces, along with green and yellow hoops. According to the information on the side of the box Lucio-Oh’s are set to release at the beginning of December.
Overwatch is available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
