“ Saturday Night Live ” comedian Pete Davidson is drawing fire for poking fun at an eye patch worn by a Republican war veteran running for congress.
“This guy’s kinda cool — Dan Crenshaw,” Davidson began during the show’s “Weekend Update” segment.
Apparently seeing where the bit was headed, show co-writer and segment host Michael Che groaned “Oh c’mon man” as Davidson continued.
“You may be surprised to learn he’s a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie,” Davidson said during the skit where he gave “first impressions” of electoral candidates.
“I’m sorry — I know he lost his eye in war or whatever,” he chuckled.
Conservatives pounced on the funnyman Sunday morning.
“Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended. That being said, I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes,” tweeted Crenshaw, a retired Navy SEAL who lost an eye in Afghanistan.

“Getting dumped by your pop star girlfriend is no excuse for lashing out at a decorated war hero who lost his eye serving our country,” he said in a statement. “Pete Davidson and NBC should immediately apologize to Dan, and to the millions of veterans and military families who tune in every weekend – because they’re not laughing.”
“How long do you think this “comic” & the writer responsible for this disgrace would last in @us_navyseals training?” tweeted Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who was herself lampooned in the show’s cold open.
