Hong Kong’s political camps face a neck-and-neck battle as polling stations in Kowloon West have opened to allow 490,000 electors to cast their votes in a key by-election.
Labour Party stalwart Lee Cheuk-yan, endorsed by the pro-democracy camp, urged voters to make their voices heard and safeguard the freedoms of the city while pro-establishment candidate Chan Hoi-yan appealed for a rational and pragmatic voice in the Legislative Council.
The 73 stations opened at 7.30am on Sunday and will close at 10.
