While there are plenty of ways to make money in Red Dead Redemption 2, here are the best glitches to get infinite money in the western themed action-adventure game.
In Red Dead Redemption 2, there are plenty of ways to make easy money, ranging from completing mini-games and hunting down legendary animals to finding hidden treasure and committing robberies. Nevertheless, some players may want to channel their inner Dutch van der Linde and somewhat exploit the system by taking a one-and-done approach to money. Luckily, for those players, there are a number of glitches that can be used to obtain an infinite source of money.
Of course, for the Red Dead Redemption 2 player wanting to enjoy a more mainstream playthrough, these methods can easily be avoided. It also seems likely that some, if not all, of these methods will get patched at some point in the future. The two most popular glitches are the gold bar exploit and the Mattock Pond infinite money glitch, both of which are detailed here, alongside some lesser-known but viable infinite money options.
To do this exploit, players first need to travel to a town known as Limpany. They will also need to make sure auto-saving is turned off. Once there, go into the Sheriff’s Office and check the lockbox behind the desk. While picking up the gold bar inside, save and reload, which should put 30 gold bars in the lockbox. They can be sold to any fence in the game for $500/piece.
For a video version, we recommend this tutorial by Mida Life Crisis.
The second most known glitch circumvents gold bars and just has players picking up an infinite stack of $20. To do this glitch, players will need to travel to Mattock Pond and find a lock box hidden in a tree. It will be around the “C” of Mattock Pond on the map. Once it is found, turn off auto-save. Then, open the box, create a new file, and load it. Go back to the lock box, it will already be open, and it will now give unlimited cash. Players simply need to rinse and repeat on picking up the money.
Although this method is lesser known, it is still worth pursuing. First, players will want to acquire a pelt. The better the pelt, the better the reward, so we recommend hunting down a legendary animal to do this glitch. Be warned: the first time this glitch is attempted, it will not work but it will the second time.
Prior to the pelt, players will want to make sure they have a fully upgraded camp. Players will want to take the aforementioned pelts to the horse station, which needs to have at least 2 horses. Have the pelt on the back of one horse, request another horse, move the original horse a few feet away, go back and request it again, and players will then see a pelt floating mid-air. After taking the pelt and dropping it somewhere, request the original horse again, and a pelt will still be on its back.

As with previous glitches, players will want to make sure to turn off auto-save. Travel to the cave just below the I in Ambarino on the map. Once there, players can enter a crevice where statues are sitting inside. Find the statue in the middle, and face it directly. Then, go to the statue and push the button. From there, go in a clockwise motion, skipping the next statue, but pushing the button on the next. Repeat this for 4 buttons in total.
Doing so correctly will open a hatch in the middle, revealing 3 gold bars. Before grabbing any gold, make sure to save. Then, collect the cold bars, but as Arthur is grabbing bar #3, save the game in a separate slot. After saving, exit the game, reload, and 3 gold bars – if done correctly – will be in Arthur’s inventory with 3 more ready to grab. This is a solid alternative for those having issues with the primary gold bar exploit, as each gold bar is worth $500, and this method can be easily repeated as necessary.
Of course, timing with the third bar is key, so for those having issues with this method, check out this video by Rolleezy:
This last step isn’t necessarily a glitch, as it made available in game by the developer Rockstar. However, for those who do not wish to glitch the game (or for when the above methods are patched out), this is a solid method that gives players $500 each time. Before proceeding, it’s worth mentioning that activating a cheat code disables trophies and achievements, but considering Red Dead Redemption 2‘s cheat codes also include increasing levels and spawning vehicles, some players may believe it is worth it.
In order to activate this cheat code, players will first need to press start, go to settings, and press either the Triangle or Y button. Then, players will want to input ‘greed is now a virtue.’ Capitalization doesn’t matter, but once this is done, players will receive an alert letting them know that it will disable auto save and trophies/achievements. Each time a player activates this cheat code, their money will increase in increments of $500.
With Red Dead Redemption 2 sales already outpacing the original game, it’s not a surprise to see these money glitches held in high regard. After all, there’s nothing like wanting something in a game without having the capacity to purchase it, but of course, there will always be people who feel like this ruins the experience. Luckily, these choices are easily pursued or deterred by the desire of the player.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
