Asus says only a small number of devices were actually targeted by the hackers behind the malicious update. Here’s how to see if your device was one of them.
Asus has released a free tool that can help you determine whether your PC was targeted by a newly uncovered supply chain attack on the company’s computers.
On Tuesday, the Taiwanese vendor confirmed that the Asus Live Update software tool was infiltrated by hackers last year to distribute a malicious update. „Asus customer service has been reaching out to affected users and providing assistance to ensure that the security risks are removed,“ the company said in a press release.
The mysterious hackers may have distributed the malicious update to more than a million users, according to security firm Kaspersky Lab, which discovered the attack and reported it to Asus in late January. Motherboard was first to report the news.

Why Asus didn’t warn customers about the malicious update sooner isn’t clear.
