WASHINGTON (AFP) – The US still believes „final, fully verified denuclearisation“ of North Korea is possible by the end of President Donald Trump’s „first term“ in 2021, despite the collapse of the latest summit with Mr Kim Jong Un, a senior official said on Thursday (March 7).
The official also confirmed that Washington would seek from Pyongyang „clarifications on the purposes“ of rebuilding a long-range rocket launch site, adding that so far the US has not reached „any specific conclusion about what’s happening there“.
The specialised website 38 North and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies used commercial satellite imagery to track construction at the site – which they said began before last week’s aborted summit in Hanoi between Mr Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.
