Cops in Virginia Beach are still probing why an engineer in the town’s public works department showed up to work with two.45 caliber handguns and methodically gunned down his co-workers, officials said Saturday.
“I can’t confirm that,” Police Chief James Cervera said at a Saturday afternoon press conference, when asked by reporters whether investigators have learned the motive of shooter DeWayne A. Craddock, 40, who authorities said slaughtered 12 colleagues Friday afternoon at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center.
Earlier Saturday, authorities said that in order to focus attention on the victims, they will only state Craddock’s name out loud one time — to confirm his identity.
Throughout the afternoon press conference, he was referred to only as “the shooter.
