Federal agents are making arrests without identifying who they work for and without charging the arrestees, putting them in unmarked vans. This is not the American way.
For some fifty days racial justice protesters in Portland Oregon have engaged in a mixture of peaceful demonstrations, vandalism of federal property, and violent confrontations with police. In no way do I condone the violent tactics of some of the protesters. They have thrown rocks at police and have set fire to a federal courthouse. Members of Black Lives Matter have distanced themselves from the mostly white perpetrators of violence. The constitution protects the right of the people to peaceably assemble to petition for redress of grievances. Protesters have no right to harm people or property.
But two wrongs do not make a right. President Trump has ordered federal law enforcement officials to come in and “dominate” the protesters. In this video, one can clearly see that masked federal agents in camouflage gear, with no badges identifying who they work for, arrested a man without telling him what he was being charged with or reading him his Miranda rights.
