Mandated coronavirus closures have been tough on businesses, many of which are doing what they can outside to stay open.
For months, coronavirus has been an unwelcome visitor – wreaking havoc on lives and livelihoods. Now businesses around Orange County are fighting back with a time-honored retort: Take it outside. In an effort to survive the second wave of shutdowns, restaurants and gyms have scrambled to move tables and treadmills outside. Churches, too, set up canvasses for al fresco services. “We’re just trying to do what we can do to stay in business, but at the same time meet all the requirements that are there so we don’t do anything that we shouldn’t,” said Vodak Hawkins, co-owner of Fanatics Athletic Club in Yorba Linda. Earlier this month, in a move to tamp down the state’s surging coronavirus cases, Gov. Gavin Newsom again halted indoor dining and shuttered gyms, hair salons, malls and other establishments.
