Psyonix has announced that Rocket League will go free to play later this summer.
Rocket League’s next update will bring some major changes, including the game’s transition into a free to play title.
The move – which will coincide with Rocket League‘s debut on the Epic Games Store – will see an overhaul of its Tournaments and Challenge systems.
Cross-platform progression, item inventory, Rocket Pass progress, and Competitive Rank will also become managed by a linked Epic Games Account. The game will continue to support cross-platform play.
You might be wondering what happens players who already own Rocket League. Well, anyone who has played the game online before the update is released will be bestowed with Legacy status. That’ll be just you and 75 million other players, then.
Legacy status includes all previously released Rocket League-branded DLC and an “Est. 20XX” title that displays the year you first played. Players will also receive a Golden Cosmos Boost, Dieci-Oro Wheels, a Huntress Player Banner, and “Legacy” quality upgrades for over 200 common items.
At the same time, the Steam version of Rocket League will no longer be available to download for new players. However, existing owners will receive everything detailed in the update and can continue to launch the game from the Steam client.
We’ll probably let you know as soon as a date is confirmed for the Rocket League update.

There are over 70 free demos of indie games available on the Xbox store right now. Here’s the full list.
When Geoff Keighley promised us a Summer Game Fest, he really meant the whole damn summer, didn’t he? This thing just keeps going on and on. Honestly, if we never had to see or hear from Geoff ever again, we would be very happy.
But there are nice things coming out of the Summer Game Fest, at least. Like this.
Presently, Xbox is having an [email protected] demo event, where 73 weird and quirky indie games all have free demos available to play. These aren’t all polished demos from already-released games, though. This is your opportunity to get in on the ground floor with some games that are still in development. That means you might run into some bugs and issues, but also, you get to discover brand new stuff while it’s still in development. You get to be like a games journalist, but you don’t have to work horrifically long hours for next to no money!
There are some real gems in the list, too. Some big names jump out, like the Destroy All Humans! remake, but you should take this opportunity to chance your arm on some things you may not have heard of. We heartily recommend Cake Bash, Cris Tales, Curved Space, Haven, Road to Guangdong, Swim Out, and of course, the mighty Tiny Hawk’s Pro SkaterSkatebird.
Here’s every game included in the [email protected] summer game demo event:
The event is on now and runs through until July 27,2020. So go fill your boots, play some demos of games you wouldn’t normally consider, and most of all, have fun.
(And if you see Geoff Keighley in the street, throw something at him.)
