July 12 (UPI) — NASCAR Cup Series rookie Cole Custer executed a daring four-wide pass on the final lap to win Sunday’s Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky.
With the victory, Custer became the first Cup Series rookie in almost four years to win a race.
Martin Truex Jr. and Kevin Harvick were dueling for the lead on the lap 266 final restart when Custer — who restarted fifth with two laps to go — used a push from Matt DiBenedetto to slide in front of the field.
