National Geographic reported the sad story of Buddy, who tested positive for the virus after his owner did.
It seems not even our pets are safe from the pandemic devastating the United States—National Geographic has reported that the first dog in the country to be diagnosed with the coronavirus died earlier this month after a months-long battle with the virus, and the case highlights how little experts know about the disease’s effects on animals. “You tell people that your dog was positive, and they look at you [as if you have] ten heads,” Allison Mahoney told National Geographic. “[Buddy] was the love of our lives… He brought joy to everybody. I can’t wrap my head around it.” Buddy’s story has raised questions about how the coronavirus affects animals who become infected.
