As part of Disney’s presentation, the company laid out the roadmap for the next few years of Star Wars storytelling through an abundance of Disney+ exclusive series and theatrical releases.
The Walt Disney DIS Company Investor Day was a treasure trove of news and announcements for fans and company investors alike. The annual meeting focused heavily on Disney’s direct-to-consumer initiatives including streaming on platforms like Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+. Disney+ has been a major success for Disney since launching November 2019. The streaming service, which is home to most Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney and National Geographic content, now has 86.8 million paid subscribers as of December 2,2020. This number will only go up after the service launches in Eastern Europe, South Korea, and Hong Kong in 2021. The show will be set in the same timeline as The Mandalorian, and will be written by the creator of Tano, Dave Filoni. The limited series could bring more information into the light about what Ahsoka was up to between the end of Star Wars Rebels. Ahsoka will be executive produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. The second show set within the timeline of The Mandalorian is Rangers of the New Republic. This live-action series will intersect with future Star Wars stories, and create a climatic story event.
