A former Army captain and Republican political candidate now part of the far-right Proud Boys militia mocked police officers as “traitors” while storming the US Capitol earlier this month, according to authorities and a report. Gabriel Garcia,40, faces charges including violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds for his alleged role in the deadly Jan.6 riot perpetrated by supporters of President Trump attempting to derail Congress’ confirmation of Joe Biden’s election win, according to officials. Videos posted to Garcia’s Facebook account captured his alleged actions during the riot, including a tense scuffle with US Capitol Police officers trying to maintain order, authorities wrote in court filings.
