What could go wrong?
“This election that I’m asking you to turn out for is illegal” is an interesting GOTV message. Before even discussing the massive corruption which took place in the 2020 Election, which gives us far more votes than is necessary to win all of the Swing States (only need three), it must be noted that the State Legislatures were not in any way responsible for the massive…. Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 1, 2021 ….is therefore both illegal and invalid, and that would include the two current Senatorial Elections. In Wisconsin, Voters not asking for applications invalidates the Election. All of this without even discussing the millions of fraudulent votes that were cast or altered! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 1, 2021 He tweeted that last night. This morning he was back to touting his upcoming rally in Georgia as if nothing had happened: Will be in Georgia on Monday night,9:00 P.M. to RALLY for two GREAT people, @sendavidperdue & @KLoeffler. GET READY TO VOTE ON TUESDAY!!! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 2, 2021 Either someone else with access to his account (Dan Scavino?) posted one of those messages and got their signals crossed with Trump or the president posted all of them and has now abandoned any pretense of logical consistency as his desperation over being forced from power deepens. He continues to double and triple down on January 6 as some sort of suspenseful moment of truth even though enough Republicans have already showed their cards to make the outcome certain. House Democrats will vote to certify Biden’s victory; most Senate Republicans, starting with Mitch McConnell, will join Senate Dems in doing the same. And Mike Pence isn’t going to do anything outlandish to disrupt the certification, as the DOJ’s response to Louie Gohmert’s lawsuit makes clear. The only suspense about January 6 is whether Trump understands yet that the outcome is a fait accompli and what he’s prepared to do, or try to do, once reality finally, finally hits home. The first remains an open question, amazingly,59 days removed from the election: POTUS was not pleased that DoJ responded on Pence’s behalf in the Gohmert et al lawsuit trying to expand the VP’s procedural role on Jan 6, per 3 ppl briefed. POTUS called Pence this AM to express some surprise about it; he has been more vocal with others about his displeasure. — Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) January 1, 2021 The second question is more complicated in that what Trump might be willing to do and what some of his fans might be willing to do aren’t necessarily the same thing. Here’s a deep thought offered by one notable fan with a huge following: If Pence is arrested, @SecPompeo will save the election. Pence will be in jail awaiting trial for treason. He will face execution by firing squad. He is a coward & will sing like a bird & confess ALL. — Lin Wood (@LLinWood) January 1, 2021 That was a bridge too far for Nick Sandmann, whom Wood represented in his defamation claims against the media over the Covington fiasco.
