Windows 11 being free to upgrade is tempting, but here’s what will vanish if you decide to move on from Windows 10.
Microsoft finally unveiled the official Windows 11 operating system at its event on June 24, 2021 after a partial build was leaked a few weeks ago, accompanied by the news that it’ll be a free upgrade for current Windows 10 users. While this is certainly fantastic news, it does come with a few small caveats – for one, you’ll be losing a few features if you’re lucky enough to fit the requirements for the free OS upgrade. A few of these you’ll likely be happy to see the back of, but there are a few changes that might be a little more divisive. The system requirements are a little confusing, with the Windows PC Health Check informing folk using even a Ryzen 9 5900X CPU and 32GB of RAM that they’re unable to upgrade, though this is seemingly an issue that mostly self-built PC users are finding. With Microsoft supporting the Windows 10 OS until October 14,2025, it’s likely this might change, allowing DIY builds to upgrade without needing to jump through hoops.
