A California high school was stripped of its boys’ basketball championship Wednesday because at least two players threw tortillas at their Latino opponents after winning the title game. Coronado High School athletes were caught on video flinging the flatbreads at players from Orange Glen High School after winning the regional championship game on June 19. The game was held at Coronado, a San Diego suburb, and at least one fan also threw tortillas. “There is no doubt the act of throwing tortillas at a predominately Latino team is unacceptable and warrants sanctions,” the California Interscholastic Federation said in its statement announcing the regional title would be vacated despite Coronado’s 60-57 victory on the court.
