GOP To Hit Back At MLB, Democrats With Ads During All Star Game

“It was supposed to be Atlanta’s night. But we were robbed,” one ad says.
Republicans are slated to run an ad campaign during Major League Baseball’s All Star festivities criticizing the league and Democrats for pulling the Midsummer Classic from Atlanta, Georgia, in protest of the state’s new election bill—a sign of how the GOP is responding to corporations, like the MLB, beginning to take a more active role in political issues. “Politicians and corporations lied, while Black communities got hurt the most,” Rev. Melvin E verson, a former Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives says in the NRSC’s ad. “It was supposed to be Atlanta’s night. But we were robbed.” After Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) signed a restrictive new voting bill in March, sparking outrage, baseballCommissioner Robert Manfred announced in April the MLB would no longer hold the All Star Game in Atlanta, Georgia. Manfred said the league “fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans” and “opposes restrictions to the ballot box.
