The two Republicans appearing on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s special committee to review the Jan.6 violence at the U.S. Capitol aligned themselves quickly with Democrats, emphasizing the one-sided agenda after Pelosi earlier refused to seat Republicans picked by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. Politico said Liz Cheney, of Wyoming, and Adam Kinzinger, of Illinois „called out“ the GOP after they accepted Pelosi’s invitation to be on her panel. Cheney immediately put the blame for Jan.6 on President Trump, despite the hearing only just beginning to hear the evidence. „We must know what happened here at the Capitol. We must also know what happened every minute of that day in the White House – every phone call, every conversation, every meeting leading up to, during, and after the attack,“ she charged. The violence developed when a few hundred Trump supporters, with the possibility of Trump critics being embedded in the crowd, invaded the building and vandalized it. It was the day Congress was voting to endorse the still-suspect results of the 2020 presidential election and award the White House to Joe Biden. Audits of those results still are ongoing, with evidence suggesting that there may have been malfeasance enough to flip the results from Trump to Biden even though multiple fact-checkers have stated over and over that there was no fraud, no wrongdoing, and no mistakes in the count.
