Black smoke and flames could be seen billowing from the roof of the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Tuesday as the famed sports venue caught on fire, leading city officials to urge residents to avoid the downtown area near the stadium. It’s unclear at this point what caused the fire, and what the extent of the damage could be, though the flames appeared limited to a small section of the Superdome’s 10-acre roof. The Superdome, which Caesars recently acquired naming rights to, has been undergoing a roof cleaning process recently ahead of a repainting.
