More Americans have died from COVID in nearly two years than all military casualties recorded during the Civil War.
Global COVID deaths have now surpassed 5 million since the virus first emerged nearly two years ago, with the U.S. recording more than any other country. According to data collected by the Coronavirus Resource Center at Johns Hopkins University, high and middle-income countries made up more than half of all reported COVID deaths. The U.S. alone recorded 745,836 COVID-attributable deaths as of November 1, more than any other country. Johns Hopkins University’s death tally also found that 43,467 people had succumbed to the virus in the past 28 days in the U.S., again the most of any other country in the same period. More Americans have died from COVID than the 620,000 military fatalities during the American Civil War.
