„RuPaul’s Drag Race“ finalist Gottmik announced the nominations via GLAAD’s TikTok channel.
GLAAD released its list of nominees for the 33rd annual GLAAD Media Awards Wednesday with the organization championing a wide variety of projects and people, including Lil Nas X, Demi Lovato, “Pose,” and “Tick, Tick… Boom!” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 13 finalist Gottmik made the announcement via TikTok. For the second year in a row, streaming services dominated overall with 63 nominations that included such films as Netflix’s “The Mitchells vs. the Machines” and TV series like HBO Max’s “The Other Two” and “Hacks.” Cable followed with 39 nods, the broadcast networks followed with 17. Of the 26 Spanish-language nominees, Univision and Telemundo were among the recognized networks. GLAAD, which is the world’s biggest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer media advocacy group, recognized 246 nominees in 30 categories. Two of these categories are new: Outstanding New TV Series and Outstanding Original Graphic Novel/Anthology. “After decades of LGBTQ characters being excluded, sidelined, or misrepresented on television, it is incredibly powerful to see how many series introduced fresh, impactful, and fully developed LGBTQ characters and storylines in their first season, many of which were some of the most beloved shows of the year,” said GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis in a statement. “The introduction of the Outstanding New TV Series category recognizes the shows and creators getting LGBTQ inclusion right from the beginning, and encourages other showrunners to include LGBTQ characters and stories that enlighten and entertain in new projects.” Winners will be unveiled at ceremonies to be held in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton April 2, and in New York at the Hilton Midtown May 6. For the past two years, the awards gatherings have been virtual. The full list of nominees is below.
