Investigators believe a convicted murderer may have been murdered behind bars. Alfredo Valenzuela,50, was found unresponsive in his cell at Kern Valley State Prison early Saturday morning during 2 a.m. rounds, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced Sunday. Staff attempted life-saving measures and Valenzuela was rushed to the Treatment and Triage Area, but he was declared dead less than half an hour later. A cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
