Former President Donald Trump offered a full-throated endorsement of Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s bid to become House speaker Wednesday morning, urging all Republicans to ‘VOTE FOR KEVIN.”
“Some really good conversations took place last night, and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA,THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE ’HOUSE’ TWICE!,” the former president said in a posting on his Truth Social platform.
“REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT. IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE, YOU DESERVE IT. Kevin McCarthy will do a good job, and maybe even a GREAT JOB – JUST WATCH!” Trump said.
Moments later, Trump added: “TAKE THE VICTORY AND RUN!!!”
The hearty endorsement for McCarthy, who failed to win the speakership in three ballots on Tuesday, comes after Trump gave a less than enthusiastic response when asked after the votes whether he was still in the California Republican’s corner, saying “we’ll see what happens.
