When “Everything Everywhere All at Once” won the best picture Oscar Sunday night, there was at least one University of Iowa graduate to thank.
Joe Russo, an Iowa grad who majored in English and writing, produced the film through AGBO, the independent production company he runs with his brother and fellow director Anthony.
Directors of huge blockbuster installments in the Marvel franchise, the Russos structured their production company specifically to use the profits created from big action movies to fund more artistic projects and young, up-and-coming filmmakers. The Russos themselves were given a similar opportunity through director Stephen Soderbergh and actor George Clooney’s company, which invested in the brothers after the release of their first film, “Pieces.”
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, known collectively as Daniels, who directed „Everything“ first came to the Russos’ attention through their indie film, “Swiss Army Man,” Joe Russo told the SyFy Network’s website.
