Twitter’s current CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday stated that the microblogging site has ‘no choice’ but to follow local government legislation.
He was reacting to former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s claim that the Indian government threatened to restrict accounts of people tweeting about the farmers’ protests.
On Tuesday, June 20, Musk told India Today “Twitter doesn’t have a choice but to obey local governments. If we don’t obey local government laws, then we will get shut down.”
Musk, who met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stated that the best they could do was to obey the rules of each country.
“There are different rules and regulations for different forms of governments, and we will do our best to provide the freest speech that is possible under the law,” he said.
Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, in an exploratory remark, had claimed that India had put pressure on the micro-blogging platform, including giving threats of winding it down and conducting raids on employees’ homes.
