The US government is preparing for a nationwide test of its emergency alert system on October 4. This will be the third test of the wireless emergency alert system and the second for all cellphones. The purpose of the test is to ensure that the system continues to effectively warn the public about emergencies. In India, similar tests have been conducted to assess the efficiency of emergency warning broadcast capabilities.
Last month, the government tested its emergency alert system by sending a test flash on several smartphones. Now, the US is preparing for a similar practice on Wednesday (October 4) when citizens in the country will get a ping on their cell phones. As per the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Federal Communications Commission, this is the third nationwide test of the wireless emergency alert system but only the second for all cellphones.
