Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti protested his innocence in the face of accusations of committing tax fraud after a ‚bad‘ game against RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Prosecutors in Spain are seeking a prison sentence of four years and nine months for the Italian for allegedly avoiding the payment of $1.1 million (€1 million) in taxes related to image rights income from his first spell in the Bernabeu dugout in 2014-2015.
After his team fought to a 1-1 draw against German opposition in the same ground, and therefore advanced 2-1 from the last 16 on aggregate, Ancelotti touched on the case for the first time in public since news broke earlier this morning.
„This is an old story that started eight years ago where the prosecution thinks I was a resident [of Spain] and I wasn’t,“ he said to Spanish broadcaster Movistar.
