Alito has recently faced criticism after his wife displayed an upside-down American flag outside of the couple’s home.
Martha-Ann Alito, the wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, is on Steve Bannon’s shortlist to become Donald Trump’s vice president pick.
Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election. Martha-Ann Alito was in the spotlight this month after her husband said she was responsible for displaying an upside-down American flag outside the couple’s home following the 2020 presidential election.
An upside-down flag—used at the time by some Trump supporters to contest the election results that showed Joe Biden was the winner—was seen in photographs flying on Alito’s property in Alexandria, Virginia, on January 17, 2021, The New York Times reported.
Alito’s wife also allegedly displayed an „Appeal to Heaven“ flag at the couple’s vacation home. Such flags are popular among Republicans and Christians, according to americanflags.com, and are seen as a symbol of Christian nationalism.
