It’s official. Toronto, welcome to the WNBA. The league announced today that they’ve officially awarded the city an expansion team, making it the 14th franchise.
Mere weeks ago it was reported that the WNBA had granted the city of Toronto an expansion team set to tip off in 2026 and now… it’s official.
The league, alongside constituents from across Canada and Kilmer Sports Inc., held a press conference early on Thursday morning to officially announce that Toronto will be the 14th expansion franchise in the league.

Former Toronto Raptors executive Teresa Resch was officially introduced as President of Basketball Operations for the WNBA Toronto franchise and she announced a few details, as far as what to expect from the team:
The team is set to play in multiple cities across Canada, including Montreal and Vancouver, and will use Toronto’s Coca-Cola Coliseum as its home base.
