President Joe Biden’s president’s son will stand trial on federal charges of illegally possessing a firearm after allegedly lying about his status as a drug user when purchasing a pistol in 2018.
While Hunter Biden’s past drug use has been well-documented, he has pleaded not guilty to the gun charges, arguing that he completed a rehab program shortly before he purchased the gun and checked off „no“ on a federal form that asked whether he was an „unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance.“ The charges stem from investigations by Department of Justice (DOJ) Special Counsel David Weiss, an appointee of former President Donald Trump.
As jury selection in the trial began Monday, Hunter Biden’s Los Angeles lawyer, Kevin Morris, continues to face growing financial concerns.
According to the New York Times, Morris, who until recently funded Hunter Biden’s legal defense, has told associates he is running out of liquid assets, adding that he might need to sell some real estate holdings or other assets if others do not step in.
This comes after Morris told NBC News in May that his financial concerns as the main financier comes at a significant moment with Hunter Biden’s trial beginning in the following weeks.
