The U.S. Open continues into the weekend at famed Pinehurst No. 2 and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has squeezed into the weekend on the cutline at 5-over par. But the dominant 27-year-old has 10 shots to make up on the 36-hole leader Ludvig Aberg, who is the favorite to win on the adjusted odds at leading online sportsbooks.
Scheffler was the pre-tournament favorite, and the five-time winner on the PGA Tour this year took by far the most bets and money (handle) to win this year’s U.S. Open ahead of the tournament. FanDuel reported more than 25% of the money for outright winner was on Scheffler.
Ludvig Åberg shot 66 in his opening round, and then 69 Friday. The 24-year-old Swedish pro’s 36-hole total of 135 ties the second-lowest in U.S. Open history by a player in his debut. Aberg is also the first player since 1985 to lead the field after 36 holes in their first U.S. Open appearance. It’s been over a century (1913) since a player won the U.
