James Comer issued a subpoena to Kimberly Cheatle after Department of Homeland Security officials appeared to have intervened.
House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chair James Comer on Wednesday issued a subpoena to Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle for testimony on the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.
On Monday, it was announced that Cheatle, who has served as the head of the Secret Service since 2022, will appear before lawmakers on July 22 for a hearing entitled: „Oversight of the U.S. Secret Service and the Attempted Assassination of President Donald J. Trump.“
However, Comer said in Wednesday letter that while the Secret Service initially committed to Cheatle’s appearance, officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials appeared to have intervened and put Cheatle’s attendance „in question.“
„The lack of transparency and failure to cooperate with the Committee on this pressing matter by both DHS and the Secret Service further calls into question your ability to lead the Secret Service and necessitates the attached subpoena compelling your appearance before the Oversight Committee“, Comer said to Cheatle in his letter.
