Tropical Storm Milton has strengthened into a hurricane and is threatening Florida, the US National Hurricane Center reported. Florida was just hit by Hurricane Helene in late September.
The day before, the office of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reported that a state of emergency had been declared in 35 counties of the state in connection with the approaching tropical storm Milton. According to meteorologists, Milton is currently packing maximum sustained winds of about 130 kilometers per hour (80 miles per hour) and is moving east at about nine kilometers per hour (5.6 miles per hour).
