–Ateneo strung up its first back-to-back wins in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament after beating shorthanded University of Santo Tomas, 67-64, on Saturday at UST’s Quadricentennial Pavilion.
The Blue Eagles improved to a 3-6 (win-loss) standing after shutting down the Growling Tigers, who played without their star big man Mo Tounkara, behind the double-digit contributions of Andrew Bongo, Ian Espinosa, Shawn Tuano and Chris Koon.
“I’m proud of the team. And the last thing I want to say is another big factor in that game is this has been a team, for all of its lackings this year, this is a team that is very stingy with the ball,” Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin said.
“We don’t turn [the ball] over. We put the ball on the rim and we give ourselves a chance.
