An Israeli airstrike struck a heavily populated residential area in central Beirut on Monday evening, near prominent landmarks such as the U.N. headquarters in Lebanon, the parliament building, the prime minister’s office and several embassies, including the European Union delegation.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that two missiles struck the Zoqaq al-Blat neighborhood. The attack comes amid reports that the U.S. envoy has postponed a planned visit that was to center on cease-fire negotiations.
Ambulance sirens blared across the area, though officials have yet to release casualty figures.
